A traditional California ranch home is reimagined with warm horizontal lap siding, vertical board-and-batten accents, and a textured stone veneer base that anchors the architecture to the landscape. Large windows open toward a sun-filled central courtyard, creating an easy, seamless indoor–outdoor flow. At the rear of the property, a detached ADU completes the courtyard composition, echoing the same material palette to form a unified, contemporary retreat designed for relaxed California living.

This California modern ranch home underwent a complete transformation, including the addition of a new media room and a master suite with a spacious bathroom. The exterior was redesigned with contemporary gray siding and a new roof featuring natural oak soffits, bringing warmth and texture to the home’s modern silhouette.

In the dining room, a recessed ceiling with concealed lighting casts a soft, ambient glow, shaping the space with quiet sophistication. A custom wood screen gently separates the dining area from the kitchen, allowing light and visual continuity to flow through. Custom-made white oak and walnut cabinetry anchor the space, infusing warmth and craftsmanship into the home’s modern architectural language.

Corten steel planters define the landscape with quiet strength, their weathered surfaces grounding the natural palette of the garden. Planted with native California grasses and low shrubs, the design celebrates texture, movement, and seasonality.

This 4,000-square-foot home was reimagined with a modern sensibility — transforming a series of enclosed traditional rooms into an open, light-filled plan that connects effortlessly to the backyard. Sliding glass walls invite sunlight and garden views deep into the interiors, creating a continuous dialogue between inside and out.

The 1,000-square-foot Pool Pavilion is thoughtfully sited within its natural environment, opening broad views to the stunning east and west gardens. Elevated along an elongated axis, the living areas open toward the swimming pool, fire pit, outdoor jacuzzi, and surrounding gardens, inviting a life of entertainment.

At the heart of the building, the bathroom is thoughtfully positioned between the kitchen/dining area and the man cave, serving as the spatial core of the pavilion. The main living spaces are framed as glass volumes with eight-foot tempered sliding walls, while a floating metal roof with deep overhangs provides shade and shelter for social gatherings.

The pavilion’s character is shaped by its materials and detailing — the articulation of ceilings and walls, and the play of texture and light. Interior walls are clad in recycled wood from local wine barrels, and natural redwood siding defines the exterior. Continuous travertine flooring extends from the interior to the patios, creating a seamless connection to the landscape.

Nestled within 1.5 acres of natural landscape, this California Contemporary Ranch home rests in quiet dialogue with its surroundings. At its heart, a striking glass entry welcomes not only people but the landscape itself—drawing in reflections of sky, trees, and light to blur the threshold between inside and out.

The architecture balances warmth with a contemporary clarity, expressed through poured-in-place concrete fireplaces, redwood walls, and limestone floors. Expansive glass openings frame the landscape and draw it gently into daily life.

    Los Altos Hills Kitchen Remodel

Originally designed by Tobin Dougherty Architects and completed in 1992, the Encinal Court residence is a contemporary home defined by strong spatial character, expressive form, and progressive architectural sensibility. When the new owner acquired the property, the goal was to modernize the interior while honoring its original design intent.

The owner’s energetic personality and bold use of color became a key influence on the design direction. The kitchen was envisioned as a vibrant gathering space, a social hub that balances expressive materiality with clarity of organization and functionality.

New material selections—including natural stone surfaces, walnut cabinetry, richly textured backsplash tile, and color-forward cabinets—introduce depth, warmth, and durability while anchoring the kitchen visually and tactilely. Throughout the space, finishes were selected to reinforce contrast and material richness, allowing the kitchen to feel both energetic and refined.

The resulting design balances bold character with disciplined architectural clarity. The kitchen strengthens the relationship between form and function, celebrating the home’s original spirit while elevating it through contemporary craftsmanship and material precision.
